Manchester City 2-1 Borussia Dortmund: Haaland wonder-goal sinks former club

Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, was hard fought at Etihad Stadium. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Man City were looking to pick up points, following a 4-0 victory against Seville. Dortmund had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 3-0 victory against Copenhague. Man City are now in 1st place on the table and have 6 points while Dortmund sit in 2nd with 3 points after 2 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Die Borussen fought back the second half, when Jude Bellingham gave them the lead in the 56th minute. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from John Stones in the 80th minute brought Man City level. Cityzens then netted again and turned the match thanks to a goal from Erling Haaland on the 84 minute mark to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Man City included Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Kalvin Phillips for Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland, respectively. Dortmund brought on Donyell Malen, Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko, to replace Giovanni Reyna, Anthony Modeste, Marco Reus and Salih Ozcan.

There were bookings for Rodri and Phil Foden from Man City. For Dortmund, Donyell Malen, Salih Ozcan and Thomas Meunier saw yellow.

Man City will play their next fixture at home against Copenhague, while Dortmund will face Seville away.
