Chelsea 2 – Zagreb 1: Home fans rewarded with victory at Stamford Bridge
Dinamo Zagreb experienced an away defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Chelsea were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the FC Salzburg away (2-1), the other to AC Milan away (2-0). Zagreb were beaten 4-0 in their previous match against AC Milan. Zagreb started the first half well, when Bruno Petkovic gave them the lead early in the first half. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Raheem Sterling producing an equaliser in the 18th minute, bringing The Blues level. Chelsea then scored once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Denis Zakaria in the 30th minute to see out the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 2-1.
Substitutions for Chelsea included Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Thiago Silva, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic for Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kalidou Koulibaly, Denis Zakaria and Raheem Sterling, respectively. Zagreb replaced Mahir Emreli, Josip Drmic, Marko Bulat and Dario Spikic with Stefan Ristovski, Bruno Petkovic, Arijan Ademi and Mislav Orsic.
