Freiburg 2-1 Mainz: Breisgau Brazilians to win to stay second

SC Freiburg eased past Mainz in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at Europa-Park-Stadion. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Freiburg arrived with the intention of improving their league position after a scoreless draw against Hoffenheim in their previous match. Mainz, meanwhile, had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Hertha. Freiburg are now in 2nd place on the table and have 17 points while Mainz sit in 10th with 11 points after 8 matches.

Freiburg started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from Michael Gregoritsch in the 3rd minute. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, at 37 minutes to see out the first half 2-0.

The 05ers staged a comeback in the second half, thanks to a goal from Aaron Martin on the 52 minute mark so at full time it was 2-1 to Freiburg.

Substitutions for Freiburg included Kevin Schade, Woo-yeong Jeong, Nils Petersen, Noah Weisshaupt and Yannik Keitel for Ritsu Doan, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Michael Gregoritsch, Vincenzo Grifo and Maximilian Eggestein, respectively. Mainz brought on Lee Jae Sung, Edimilson Fernandes, Angelo Fulgini, Delano Burgzorg and Nelson Weiper, to replace Leandro Martins, Stefan Bell, Danny Da Costa, Jonathan Michael Burkardt and Anton Stach.

There were bookings for Nicolas Hofler and Yannik Keitel from Freiburg, and Stefan Bell, Leandro Martins, Anton Stach and Dominik Kohr, for Mainz.

Freiburg will next travel to Hertha, while Mainz will face RB Leipzig at home.
