Mainz 0-3 Wolfsburg: Home advantage wasted by The 05ers
Wolfsburg banked all three points against the Mainz in a 3-0 victory on Saturday, at the OPEL Arena. Mainz were looking forward to playing again after losing their last match 6-2 to Bayern Munich. Wolfsburg were coming off the back of a 4-0 win against Bochum. Mainz and Wolfsburg sit 10th, (18 points) and 11th, (17 points), in the table respectively, after 13 matches.
The Wolves started the match strongly, when Patrick Wimmer opened the rout on the 33 minute mark, to take a 1-0 lead into half time.
Wolfsburg continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Maximilian Arnold in the 70th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Ridle Baku made it 3-0 on the 84 minute mark to give a final score of 3-0.
Substitutions for Mainz included Danny Da Costa, Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Angelo Fulgini, Delano Burgzorg and Aymen Barkok for Silvan Widmer, Marcus Ingvartsen, Anthony Caci, Anton Stach and Lee Jae Sung, respectively. Wolfsburg brought on Jonas Wind, Mattias Svanberg, Kilian Fischer, Jerome Roussillon and Omar Marmoush, to replace Lukas Nmecha, Felix Nmecha, Patrick Wimmer, Paulo Otavio and Jakub Kaminski.
There were bookings for Anton Stach from Mainz. For Wolfsburg, Ridle Baku saw yellow.
Mainz will next travel to Schalke, while Wolfsburg will face Borussia Dortmund at home.
