Cologne 3-2 Dortmund: The Billy Goats stop Die Borussen
FC Köln eased past Borussia Dortmund in a 3-2 victory on Saturday at the Rhein Energie Stadion. Cologne were aiming to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against Bochum. Dortmund were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Schalke. Cologne are now in 7th place on the table and have 13 points while Dortmund sit in 4th with 15 points after 8 matches.
Dortmund started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Julian Brandt gave them the lead, at 31 minutes, ending the first half 1-0.
Cologne fought back, when Florian Kainz found the net, 53 minutes in. Cologne looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Steffen Tigges, at 56 minutes to establish a 2-1. The momentum was again with The Billy Goats, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Dejan Ljubicic on the 71 minute mark to establish a 3-1 result. Die Borussen in turn, then responded in the 78th minute, grabbing the lead with an effort from Benno Erik Schmitz, leaving the final score at 3-2.
Substitutions for Cologne included Florian Dietz, Sargis Adamyan, Kingsley Schindler, Denis Huseinbasic and Eric Martel for Steffen Tigges, Ondrej Duda, Linton Maina, Florian Kainz and Benno Erik Schmitz, respectively. Cologne will next travel to B Mönchengladbach, while Dortmund will face Bayern Munich at home.
