Racing 4-3 Rosario Central 3: Racing hold on in seven-goal thriller

Rosario Central on away loss to Racing at Estadio Juan Domingo Peron on Saturday. Racing were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Unión Santa Fe at home (2-1), the other to CA Platense away (1-0). Rosario Central were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Racing are now in 2nd place on the table and have 40 points while Rosario Central sit in 23rd with 25 points after 22 matches.

Racing started the first half well, when Carlos Alcaraz found the net, 8 minutes in. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Facundo Almada, 19 minutes in, brought Rosario Central level. Rosario Central looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Facundo Valentin Buonanotte in the 24th minute to establish a 2-1. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Alejo Veliz, at 34 minutes to see out the first half 3-1.

Racing continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Emiliano Vecchio found the net on the 65 minute mark. Racing looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Maximiliano Romero in the 68th minute to establish a 3-3. However they weren’t finished yet and Anibal Moreno made it 4-3 just before the full time to give a final score of 4-3.

Substitutions for Racing included Juan Jose Caceres, Johan Carbonero, Emiliano Vecchio, Nicolas Oroz and Leonel Miranda for Facundo Mura, Gabriel Hauche, Jonathan Gomez, Carlos Alcaraz and Matias Rojas, respectively. Rosario Central brought on Vergara, Juan Cruz Cerrudo and Jhonatan Candia, to replace Juan Gabriel Rodriguez, Fernando Rodriguez and Alejo Veliz.

There were bookings for Leonardo Sigali, Juan Jose Caceres, Eugenio Mena and Anibal Moreno from Racing, and Jorge Broun and Juan Cruz Cerrudo, for Rosario Central.

Racing will next travel to Defensa and Justicia, while Rosario Central will face Unión Santa Fe at home.
