Argentinos 2-0 Boca 0: First-half brace gives Argentinos comfortable home win

Argentinos Juniors beated Boca 2-0 on Wednesday at Diego Armando Maradona. Both Argentinos and Boca arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Argentinos were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against Barracas C. away and CA Tigre at home, by 3-1 and 2-1 respectively. Boca had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Talleres Córdoba. After today’s result, Argentinos and Boca are 1st, (19 points) and 12th, (12 points), spots respectively, after 9 matches.

Argentinos started strongly in the first half, when Gabriel Carabajal gave Argentinos the lead at the 23 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Gaston Veron just before halftime. The first half ended 2-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-0.

Substitutions for Argentinos included Lautaro Nahuel Ovando, Jose Maria Herrera, Federico Redondo Solari and Luciano Gomez for Gaston Veron, Nicolas Reniero, Gabriel Carabajal and Javier Cabrera, repectively. Boca brought on Oscar Romero, Gonzalo Sandez, Juan Ramirez and Dario Benedetto for Nicolas Orsini, Frank Fabra, Sebastian Villa and Luis Vazquez.

There were bookings for Pablo Minissale from Argentinos, and Guillermo Fernandez, Carlos Zambrano and Dario Benedetto, for Boca.

Argentinos will next travel to Banfield, while Boca will face Estudiantes La Plata at home.
