Jude Bellingham is one of the best young players in the world. A Champions League performer and England international at just 17 years old, Bellingham has already made a big move in his career and is being linked with further blockbuster deals.

Playing alongside Erling Haaland, Bellingham wage isn’t the biggest at Borussia Dortmund, and he could be lured back to English football by the riches of the top six. There’s no doubt he’s got the ability.

Overhyping young players is a popular pastime for the English. Bellingham, though, just like Jadon Sancho before him, has escaped the spotlight, becoming underrated if anything.

Jude Bellingham England

Not only were Bellingham and Sancho teammates in the bumble bee colours of Dortmund, they are the top tier of all the superb young English players at the moment. They shared a dressing room in Germany, and they shared a residence under the radar.

Bellingham might have played more for England already had he been in the Premier League rather than appearing sporadically in Bundesliga news. Instead, he has at times seemed an afterthought.

This could all prove to be beneficial for his long-term development, of course, and it seems like a matter of time until he returns to the potentially crippling scrutiny across the Channel.

Let’s learn a bit more about the Stourbridge-born midfield phenom.

Jude Bellingham Wage

Jude Bellingham wage is reported to be in the region of £49,000 per week. While this is a hefty salary for a teenager, there’s no doubt Bellingham is in line for a massive pay rise sooner or later.

There are 210 Premier League players earning more than Bellingham per week, including Jadon Sancho, who is on £350,000 per week at Manchester United.

Bellingham’s other England teammates are also on considerably more than him. Mason Mount receives just shy of £89,000 from Chelsea, and John Stones gets £250,000 per week from Manchester City.

Bound to be a hot topic in the coming months, Bellingham wage is one way Dortmund could convince him to stay at the club.

A new contract worth around £100,000 per week has been rumoured, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a Premier League club come in and offer a figure similar to what Sancho is on.

Early Career

Jude Bellingham signed for Birmingham City as an under-8. His progress through the academy ranks was dramatic, appearing for the under-18s at 14 and debuting for the 23s a year later.

Before joining the first team squad, Europe’s biggest clubs were showing an interest in Bellingham. Word of his talent had travelled quickly, and while still a schoolboy, he was training with the first team.

Agreeing to a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2019, Bellingham was given a first team squad number for 2019-20 and made his debut in August of that season, shattering the club record to become the Blues’ youngest ever player.

Just weeks later, he made his home Football League debut and scored the winner to beat Stoke.

From that point on, he was a fixture in the first team squad. Occasionally a substitute, Bellingham was initially integrated out wide before being handed more responsibility in central midfield.

When he was awarded EFL Player of the Month in November 2019, the world was eagerly watching Bellingham’s development and transfer rumours swirled further.

Birmingham reportedly rejected advances in the January 2020 transfer window. Bellingham was integral as the club stayed up against the odds.

The Blues retired Bellingham’s number at the end of the campaign, a decision that was derided from all corners.

Jude Bellingham Dortmund

His move to Borussia Dortmund came that summer for an initial fee of £25 million – the transfer helped Birmingham turn their finances around.

Immediately in the Dortmund starting XI, Bellingham once again saw records tumble. A debut goal made him the club’s youngest ever competitive scorer, and later that season he was the youngest Englishman to start a Champions League match, breaking Phil Foden’s record.

Facing Foden’s Manchester City in the knockout rounds, Bellingham put in a couple of statement performances. City were considered tournament favourites at that point, and Bellingham more than held his own.

A few weeks later, he started as Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal final, and ultimately won Newcomer of the Season.

Euro 2020

Jude Bellingham had starred through the youth age groups, often captaining his sides. It wasn’t until November 2020 that he got a call-up to the senior team, however, and he became England’s third-youngest international during that break.

His performances in the second half of 2020-21 effectively guaranteed a place in the England squad for Euro 2020.

First featuring as a substitute in England’s opening match, the Stourbridge native became the youngest Englishman to appear in any major tournament and the youngest player in Euros history.

Transfer Rumours

Manchester United allegedly had a bid for Jude Bellingham turned down in January 2020. The Red Devils remain prominently linked with Bellingham.

They are not alone. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been suggested as landing spots for Bellingham should Dortmund open up a bidding war.

With Erling Haaland set to depart in summer 2022, though, it seems likely Bellingham will be at Dortmund until at least 2023. Dortmund refused to let Haaland leave in the same window as Sancho, and they could take a similar approach with Bellingham.

Bellingham became the most expensive 17-year-old of all-time when he moved to Germany to don the latest Borussia Dortmund kit.

Die Schwarzgelben will be looking for three or four times the £25 million they paid for the England international, and he’s likely heading for a massive, long-term contract if he moves.

Manchester United or Chelsea, in particular, could make him one of the five highest earners in the Premier League.

The Jude Bellingham transfer rumours are bound to occupy headlines for months – or maybe years – to come. He will be a difference maker wherever he ends up, but the Westfalenstadion faithful will hope they can enjoy his talents for a few more seasons just yet.
