Angers 0-3 Marseille: The Phocaeans blank Angers at the Stade Raymond Kopa

Olympique de Marseille enjoyed an away victory against Angers at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Friday. Angers were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Nice away (1-0), the other to Montpellier at home (2-1). Marseille, meanwhile, had secured a point against Rennes in their previous match. Angers are now in 14th place, with 8 points from 9 matches, while Marseille sit in 1st, with 23 points from 9.

The Phocaeans started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Jonathan Clauss opened the rout in the 35th minute to see out the first half 1-0.

Marseille staged a comeback in the second half, with an early goal from Luis Suarez in the 50th minute. Marseille then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Gerson on the 59 minute mark to make it 3-0.

Substitutions for Angers included Amine Salama, Ibrahim Amadou, Himad Abdelli, Sada Thioub and Pierrick Capelle for Abdallah Sima, Batista Mendy, Adrien Hunou, Azzedine Ounahi and Sofiane Boufal, respectively. Marseille brought on Valentin Rongier, Amine Harit, Souleymane Toure, Cengiz Under and Bamba Dieng, to replace Dimitri Payet, Gerson, Leonardo Balerdi, Jonathan Clauss and Luis Suarez.

Marseille and Angers will next play at home to AC Ajaccio and RC Strasburg respectively.
