UNAM 1 – Mazatlán 1: Victory elusive at Estadio Olimpico Universitario for both sides
On Thursday, UNAM and Mazatlán were held to a 1-1 draw at Estadio Olimpico Universitario. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. UNAM wanted to improve their league standing following a 0-0 draw with Pachuca in their previous game. Mazatlán, on the other hand, secured a point against Atl. San Luis in their previous match. As things stand, UNAM and Mazatlán currently occupy 8th and 17th spots in the table, with 6 points and 2 points respectively after 5 matches.
Following a goalless first half, Mazatlán fought back the second half, when Eduard Bello gave Cañoneros the lead in the 75th minute. In the end though, their lead was short lived, as Nicolas Freire equalised for UNAM just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 1-1.
Substitutions for UNAM included Diogo de Oliveira, Efraín Velarde and Amaury Garcia for Higor Meritao, Jero Rodriguez and Leonel Lopez, repectively. Mazatlán brought on Emilio Sanchez, Andres Montano, Enrique Cedillo and Gonzalo Sosa, to replace Nicolas Benedetti, Roberto Meraz, Eduard Bello and Brian Rubio.
There were bookings for Nicolas Freire and Jero Rodriguez from UNAM, and Jefferson Intriago, for Mazatlán.
UNAM will next play Monterrey at home, with Mazatlán facing Tijuana away.
