Monterrey 3 – AME 2: The Eagles unable to avoid defeat at Estadio Bbva Bancomer
Monterrey enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against América at Estadio Bbva Bancomer on Sunday. Monterrey were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last match 4-3 to Santos Laguna whilst AME are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As it stands, Monterrey are in 15th place, with 0 points from 2 matches, while AME sit in 12th, with 1 point from 2.
Rayados started the match well, when Stefan Medina gave Monterrey the lead in the 9th minute. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Jonathan Rodriguez producing an equaliser at the 22 minute mark, bringing AME level. However they weren’t finished yet and Alex Zendejas made it 2-1, at 34 minutes, concluding the first half 2-1.
Monterrey continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Maximiliano Meza found the net, at 66 minutes. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Rodrigo Aguirre, at 75 minutes with a final score of 3-2.
Substitutions for Monterrey included Joao Rojas, Rodolfo Pizarro, Matias Kranevitter and Angel Zapata for Celso Ortiz, Maximiliano Meza, Arturo Gonzalez and Joao Rojas, repectively. AME brought on Emilio Lara, Richard Sanchez, Henry Martin, Alvaro Fidalgo and Jurgen Damm, to replace Nestor Araujo, Jonathan Dos Santos, Federico Vinas, Pedro Aquino and Alex Zendejas.
