Mazatlán 2 – Chivas 1: Points secure as Cañoneros ease past Las Chivas
Guadalajara fell to an away defeat at the hands of Mazatlán at Estadio de Mazatlan on Saturday. Mazatlán were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Tijuana. Chivas are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As it stands, Mazatlán are in 17th place in the table and have 3 points while Chivas sit in 15th with 5 points after 7 matches.
Following a goalless first half, Mazatlán applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Emilio Sanchez found the net, 69 minutes in. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Angel Zaldívar at the 79 minute mark brought Chivas level. Cañoneros in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Oswaldo Alanis and saw the match end 2-1.
Substitutions for Mazatlán included Josue Colman, Brian Rubio, Roberto Meraz, Eduard Bello and Enrique Cedillo for Marco Fabian, Gonzalo Sosa, Emilio Sanchez, Yoel Barcenas and Nicolas Benedetti, repectively. Chivas brought on Roberto Alvarado, Carlos Cisneros, Pavel Perez, Isaac Brizuela and Alan Torres, to replace Sebastian Bouquet, Cristian Calderon, Luis Olivas, Fernando Beltran and Angel Zaldívar.
The referee booked Oswaldo Alanis, Nestor Vicente Vidrio, Emilio Sanchez, Nicolas Vikonis, Carlos Vargas and Brian Rubio from Mazatlán. Chivas had the worst of it though, with Luis Olivas, Ruben Gonzalez and Jesus Orozco seeing yellow, and Ruben Gonzalez (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.
Mazatlán will play their next fixture away against León, while Chivas will face Atlas at home.
