León 3 – UNAM 3: Victory beyond reach for Los Panzas Verdes at Estadio Leon
León were held to 3-3 draw by UNAM down on Sunday at Estadio Leon. León were looking to continue their run, following a 2-1 victory against Atl. San Luis while UNAM had managed to pick up a single point in their matchup with Tijuana. As the table looks today, León and UNAM are 3rd, (4 points) and 9th, (2 points), in the league respectively, after 2 matches.
Los Pumas dominated the first half, with an early penalty goal from Juan Dinenno in the 5th minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Gustavo Del Prete just before halftime. The score at half time was 2-0.
UNAM started the second half with renewed vigour, thanks to a goal from Eduardo Salvio in the 52nd minute. However, León weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Lucas Di Yorio in the 53rd minute. The momentum was now with Los Panzas Verdes, who then scored again through a goal from Joel Campbell, at 59 minutes to establish a 3-2. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a second effort from Lucas Di Yorio in the 79th minute with a final score of 3-3.
Substitutions for León included Fidel Daniel Ambriz Gonzalez, Angel Mena, Jose Alvarado and Luis Montes for Federico Martinez, Victor Davila, Joel Campbell and Jose Rodriguez, repectively. UNAM brought on Diogo de Oliveira, Jesus Rivas, Marco Garcia and Carlos Gutierrez, to replace Jorge Antonio Ruvalcaba Castro, Pablo Bennevendo, Eduardo Salvio and Gustavo Del Prete.
The referee booked seven players. Rodolfo Cota and Byron Castillo from León, who saw yellow cards and Osvaldo Rodriguez, sent off with a red, as well as for UNAM Jose Galindo, Pablo Bennevendo, Jorge Antonio Ruvalcaba Castro and Gustavo Del Prete also seeing yellows.
León will next travel to Puebla, while UNAM will face Necaxa at home.
