AME 1 – Toluca 0: The Eagles manage home win against Los Diablos Rojos
América strolled past Deportivo Toluca with a 1-0 win on Thursday at Estadio Azteca. AME arrived at the match looking pick up points after losing 3-2 to Monterrey in their last match while Toluca were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Atlas and Necaxa. As it stands, AME are in 14th place, with 1 point from 3 matches, while Toluca sit in 1st, with 6 points from 3.
Following a goalless first half, AME applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Richard Sanchez gave The Eagles the lead just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 1-0.
Substitutions for AME included Román Martinez, Jurgen Damm, Bruno Valdez and Francisco Garcia for Henry Martin, Jonathan Rodriguez, Nestor Araujo and Alex Zendejas, repectively. Toluca replaced Leonardo Fernandez, Jean Meneses, Carlos Gonzales and Fernando Navarro for Haret Ortega, Jordan Sierra, Camilo Da Silva and Daniel Alvarez.
The referee booked Richard Sanchez from AME. Toluca had the worst of it though, with Camilo Da Silva seeing yellow, and Claudio Baeza then sent off with a red.
AME will next play Tijuana away, with Toluca facing Santos Laguna at home.
