Port Vale 2-1 Shrewsbury Town: The Valiants edge Shrews for three points

Port Vale enjoyed a home victory against Shrewsbury Town at Vale Park on Saturday. Port Vale were aiming to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against Barnsley while Shrewsbury Town were coming from consecutive wins against Exeter City and Forest Green Rovers. both teams are now on 12 points and occupy 13th and 12th places respectively after 10 matches.

The Valiants started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to a goal from Ellis Harrison, 9 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Christian Saydee equalised for Shrewsbury Town in the 19th minute, ending the first half 1-1.

Port Vale continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Ellis Harrison found the net once more just before the full time, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Port Vale included Dennis Politic, Ademipo Odubeko, David Worrall and Tom Conlon for Daniel Butterworth, James Wilson, Gavin Massey and Ellis Harrison, respectively. Shrewsbury Town brought on Ryan Bowman, Jordan Shipley and Robert Street, to replace Carl Winchester, Tom Bayliss and Christian Saydee.

There were bookings for Daniel Butterworth and Dan Jones from Port Vale. For Shrewsbury Town, Tom Flanagan, Robert Street and Jordan Shipley saw yellow.

Port Vale will next travel to Peterborough United, while Shrewsbury Town will face Burton Albion at home.
