Charlton 5-1 Plymouth: Pilgrims suffer heavy loss at The Valley

Plymouth Argyle fell to an away defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Tuesday. Charlton Athletic were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. Plymouth Argyle were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-0 win against Peterborough United in their last match. As it stands, Charlton Athletic and Plymouth Argyle currently occupy 6th and 12th spots in the league, with 7 points and 6 points respectively after 4 matches.

Charlton Athletic didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, when Jesuran Rak-Sakyi opened the rout, 11 minutes in. The momentum was now with Charlton Athletic, who then scored again through a goal from Jayden Stockley at the 41 minute mark to establish a 2-0. However they weren’t finished yet and Sean Clare made it 3-0 just before halftime, which saw the first half end 3-0.

Plymouth Argyle took the initiative in the second half, thanks to a goal from Morgan Whittaker at the 71 minute mark. However, Charlton Athletic increased their advantage 4-1 thanks to a goal from Charlie Kirk, 76 minutes in. Charlton Athletic then scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Miles Leaburn, at 84 minutes to make it 5-1.

Substitutions for Charlton Athletic included Conor McGrandles, Miles Leaburn, Jack Payne and Ryan Inniss for Sean Clare, Jesuran Rak-Sakyi, Scott Fraser and Eoghan O’Connell, repectively. Plymouth Argyle brought on Niall Ennis, Brendan Galloway, Matt Butcher, Luke Jephcott and Nigel Lonwijk, to replace Ryan Hardie, Bali Mumba, Adam Randell, Finn Azaz and Joe Edwards.

James Wilson saw the red card, for Plymouth Argyle.

Charlton Athletic will next play Cambridge Utd at home, with Plymouth Argyle facing Forest Green Rovers away.
