Elche 1-1 Almería: Points shared in tight duel at Estadio Martínez Valero
On Monday, Elche and Almería were held to a 1-1 draw at Estadio Martínez Valero. Both Elche and Almería arrived at the match from previous defeats in the league. Elche were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to Real Betis. Almería, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against R Madrid. As it stands, both teams are on 0 points and sit in 19th and 16th places respectively after 2 matches.
Almería started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Umar Sadiq at the 23 minute mark. However, their lead was short lived, as Alex Collado equalised for Elche at the 30 minute mark, which saw the first half end 1-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 1-1.
Substitutions for Elche included Lucas Boye, Domingos Quina, Pere Milla, Javier Pastore and Josan for Ezequiel Ponce, Gerard Gumbau, Roger Marti, Tete Morente and Alex Collado, repectively. Almería replaced Lucas Robertone, Arnau Puigmal, Umar Sadiq and Largie Ramazani for Leo Baptistao, Chumi, Dyego Sousa and Francisco Portillo.
The referee booked Gerard Gumbau from Elche. Almería had the worst of it though, with Eguaras, Sergio Akieme, Leo Baptistao and Kaiky Melo seeing yellow, and Alex Centelles then sent off with a red.
Elche next face Real Sociedad and Almería are at home to Seville.
