Celta 2-2 Espanyol: Points shared at Estadio Municipal de Balaidos

The first match of the new LaLiga season between Celta and Espanyol ended on a draw. Today’s result, leave both teams on 0 points and sitting in 11th and 6th positions respectively, after their first match.

The Sky Blues started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to a goal from Iago Aspas just before halftime

Celta took the lead in the second half, when Goncalo Paciencia found the net, 63 minutes in. However, Espanyol weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Edu Exposito, 72 minutes in. Budgerigars then netted once more and found an equaliser thanks to a penalty goal from Joselu just before the final whistle to make it 2-2.

Substitutions for Celta included Renato Tapia, Carles Perez, Gabriel Veiga and Óscar Mingueza for Augusto Solari, Goncalo Paciencia, Oscar and Franco Cervi, repectively. Espanyol brought on Edu Exposito, Adri Embarba, Luca Koleosho and Nabil Touaizi, to replace Fernando Calero, Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo, Ruben Sanchez and Vinicius Souza.

There were bookings for Hugo Mallo, Joseph Aidoo, Iago Aspas, Javi Galan and Agustin Marchesin from Celta. For Espanyol, Vinicius Souza and Oscar Regano saw yellow.

In the second round of action in the LaLiga, both Espanyol and Celta will play at home against Rayo Vallecano and R Madrid respectively.
