Atletico Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at San Mames Stadium. Athletic Bilbao arrived with the intention of improving their league position following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Seville in their previous game. Atleti were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Girona and Seville. Athletic Bilbao are currently 4th with 17 points from 9 matches, while Atleti sit in 3rd, with 19 points from 9.

Atleti started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Antoine Griezmann gave them the lead just before half-time, which saw the first half end 1-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for Athletic Bilbao included Raul Garcia, Asier Villalibre, Oier Zarraga, Dani Garcia and Dani Vivian for Iker Muniain, Nicholas Williams, Oihan Sancet, Mikel Vesga and Yeray Alvarez, respectively. Atleti brought on Saul Niguez, Ivo Grbic, Angel Correa, Axel Witsel and Joao Felix, to replace Alvaro Morata, Jan Oblak, Rodrigo De Paul, Koke and Thomas Lemar.

The referee booked Jose Gimenez, Alvaro Morata, Jan Oblak, Saul Niguez, Axel Witsel and Ivo Grbic for Atleti.
