Sporting Braga 1-2 Saint-Gilloise: Belgian visitors bank the points

Union Saint-Gilloise strolled past Sporting Braga with a 2-1 win on Thursday at Braga Municipal. Both sides arrived on the back of wins. Sporting Braga were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches against Union Berlin at home and Malmö away, by 1-0 and 2-0 respectively while Saint-Gilloise were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Malmö and Union Berlin. Sporting Braga and Saint-Gilloise currently occupy 2nd and 1st spots in the table, with 6 points and 9 points respectively after 3 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Sporting Braga certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with an early goal from Abel Ruiz in the 49th minute. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Gustaf Nilsson, 86 minutes in brought Saint-Gilloise level. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a 2nd effort from Gustaf Nilsson just before the final whistle to give a final score of 2-1.

Substitutions for Sporting Braga included Rodrigo Gomes, Simon Banza, Diego Lainez, Jean-Baptiste Gorby and Alvaro Djalo for Andre Horta, Vítor Carvalho, Ricardo Horta, Abel Ruiz and Andre Castro, respectively. Saint-Gilloise replaced Loic Lapoussin, Ismael Kandouss, Bart Nieuwkoop, Jean Thierry Lazare Amani and Dante Vanzeir for Simon Adingra, Gustaf Nilsson, Guillaume Francois, Cameron Puertas Castro and Ross Sykes.

There were bookings for Vitor Tormena and Fabiano from Sporting Braga. For Saint-Gilloise, Teddy Teuma and Anthony Moris saw yellow.

Sporting Braga will next play Union Saint-Gilloise away, with Saint-Gilloise facing Sporting Braga at home.
