Monaco 4-1 Red Star Belgrade: Bad day for visitors at the Stade Louis II

AS Mónaco defeated Red Star Belgrade 4-1 on Thursday at the Stade Louis II. Monaco were looking for a victory following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Ferencváros in their previous game. Red Star Belgrade, meanwhile, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 2-1 victory against Trabzonspor. Following the final whistle at the end of the last match of the Europa League Group Stage season for both sides, Monaco and Red Star Belgrade sit 1st (10 points) and 4th (6 points) in the league respectively, after a total of 6 matches.

The Monégasques dominated the first half, with an early goal from Kevin Volland in the 5th minute. Monaco then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a effort from Kevin Volland after 27 minutes. The score at break remained 2-0.

Monaco started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early calamitous own goal from Milan Rodic in the 50th minute. However, Red Star Belgrade refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Kanga Guelor in the 54th minute. In the end though, Monaco then grabbed a hat trick effort from Kevin Volland just before the final whistle, seing the match finish 4-1.

Substitutions for Monaco included Vanderson, Breel Embolo, Ismail Jakobs, Eliot Matazo and Ben Seghir for Krepin Diatta, Wissam Ben Yedder, Aleksandr Golovin, Mohamed Camara and Kevin Volland, respectively. Red Star Belgrade brought on Slavoljub Srnic, Kings Kangwa, Ben, Ibrahim Mustapha and Irakli Azarovi, to replace Stefan Mitrovic, Aleksandar Katai, Osman Bukari, Kanga Guelor and Milan Rodic.

There were bookings for Benoit Badiashile from Monaco. For Red Star Belgrade, Milan Rodic, Aleksandar Katai, Slavoljub Srnic and Kanga Guelor saw yellow.
