West Brom 5-2 Hull City: Tigers tamed at The Hawthorns in 7-goal epic

West Bromwich Albion’s 5-2 win over Hull City on Saturday, was hard fought at The Hawthorns. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. West Brom wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Cardiff City in their previous game. Hull City had managed to pick up a single point in their matchup with Burnley. As it stands, West Brom and Hull City currently occupy 13th and 6th spots in the league, with 6 points and 8 points respectively after 5 matches.

The Baggies started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Callum Elder opened the rout in the 37th minute, to take a 1-0 lead into half time.

West Brom started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from John Swift in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with West Brom, who then scored again through a goal from Darnell Furlong, at 55 minutes to establish a 3-0. However, Hull City weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Oscar Estupinan, 77 minutes in. However, West Brom increased their advantage with a Dara O’Shea goal, 85 minutes in to make it 5-1. In the end though, Hull City secured the points emphatically, with a 2nd effort from Oscar Estupinan just before the final whistle. The final result, West Brom 5, Hull City 2.

Substitutions for West Brom included Matthew Phillips, Callum Robinson, Jake Livermore, Adam Reach and Taylor Gardner-Hickman for Darnell Furlong, Okay Yokuslu, John Swift, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant, repectively. Hull City brought on Ryan Woods and Vaughn Covil for Ozan Tufan and Randell Williams.

The referee booked three players from Hull City, Oscar Estupinan, Lewie Coyle and Tobias Figueiredo.

West Brom will play away against Huddersfield Town, while Hull City will face Coventry City at home.
