Rotherham 2-4 Hull City: Millers suffer a home upset against The Tigers
Rotherham on home loss to Hull City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday. Both Rotherham and Hull City arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Rotherham had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Stoke City away (1-0), the other to Huddersfield Town at home (2-1) whilst Hull City were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-1 victory against Blackpool. Rotherham are now in 11th place, with 21 points from 17 matches, while Hull City sit in 16th, with 20 points from 17.
Hull City dominated the first half, when Jacob Greaves gave them the lead, 44 minutes in. However, their lead was short-lived, as Daniel Barlaser equalised for The Millers just before half-time and saw the first half out 1-1.
Hull City started the second half with renewed vigour, when Cyrus Christie gave them the lead after 52 minutes. The momentum was again with Hull City, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Ryan Longman, 59 minutes in to establish a 3-1 result. Hull City looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Ozan Tufan, at 85 minutes to establish a 4-1. Rotherham in turn, then responded just before the full time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Georgie Kelly, seing the match finish 4-2.
Substitutions for Rotherham included Hakeem Odofin, Grant Hall, Scott High, Cohen Bramall and Georgie Kelly for Oliver Rathbone, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Ben Wiles, Lee Peltier and Conor Washington, respectively. Hull City brought on Ozan Tufan, Oscar Estupinan, Brandon Fleming, Dogukan Sinik and Lewie Coyle, to replace Dimitris Pelkas, Ryan Longman, Regan Slater, Ryan Woods and Jean Seri.
The referee booked Hakeem Odofin for Rotherham.
Rotherham will next travel to Cardiff City, while Hull City will face Blackburn Rovers at home.
