Preston 0-2 Stoke: The Lilywhites suffer home loss to The Potters

Preston North End fell to a home defeat at the hands of Stoke City at Deepdale on Saturday. Both teams arrived fresh from some positive results. North End were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Norwich City away (3-2), the other to West Bromwich Albion at home (1-0). Stoke were coming off the back of a 3-1 win against Sheffield United. both teams are now on 19 points and occupy 12th and 11th places respectively after 15 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Stoke continued to apply pressure in the second period, when William Smallbone gave them the lead, 58 minutes in. However they weren’t finished yet and Tyrese Campbell made it 2-0 on the 66 minute mark to give a final score of 2-0.

Substitutions for North End included Benjamin Woodburn, Brad Potts, Ched Evans and Finlay Douglas Cross Adair for Robbie Brady, Alan Browne, Bambo Diaby and Sean Maguire, respectively. Stoke replaced Liam Delap, Sam Clucas and Harry Clarke with Tyrese Campbell, William Smallbone and Dwight Gayle.

The referee booked Andrew Hughes for North End.

North End will next travel to Huddersfield Town, while Stoke will face Rotherham United at home.
