Coventry 1-0 Middlesbrough: The Sky Blues land first win of the campaign
Coventry City eased past Middlesbrough in a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Coventry Building Society Arena. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Coventry were aiming to improve their league standing following a 0-0 draw with Birmingham City in their previous game whilst Boro had to settle for a draw 0-0 against Rotherham United. Coventry are now in 24th place, with 6 points from 12 matches, while Boro sit in 22nd, with 10 points from 12.
It was an impressive opening from The Sky Blues, when Viktor Gyokeres found the net in the 17th minute to see them go in at half time 1-0 up. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.
Substitutions for Coventry included Josh Eccles and Martyn Waghorn for Kasey Palmer and Matt Godden, respectively. Boro brought on Chuba Akpom, Ryan Giles, Isaiah Jones, Riley McGree and Paddy McNair, to replace Duncan Watmore, Matt Clarke, Tommy Smith, Alex Mowatt and Anfernee Dijksteel.
There were bookings for Fankaty Dabo, Kasey Palmer, Jake Bidwell and Ben Wilson from Coventry, and Isaiah Jones, for Boro.
Coventry will next travel to Bristol City, while Boro will face Birmingham City at home.
