Cardiff 1 – Watford 2: The Hornets leave the Cardiff City Stadium with all 3 points
Watford’s 2-1 win over Cardiff City on Wednesday, was hard fought at the Cardiff City Stadium. Both Cardiff and Watford arrived at the challenge after previous wins. Cardiff were looking to pick up points, following a 1-0 victory against Rotherham United while Watford were coming from consecutive wins against Wigan Athletic and Luton Town. Cardiff and Watford currently occupy 18th and 6th spots in the league, with 21 points and 29 points respectively after 19 matches.
Cardiff started the first half well, when Cedric Kipre gave them the lead, at 10 minutes. However, their lead was short-lived, as Francisco Sierralta equalised for The Hornets in the 37th minute to see out the first half 1-1.
Watford continued to pile on the pressure in the second period, when Ismaila Sarr found the net, 58 minutes in, seing the match finish 2-1.
Substitutions for Cardiff included Romaine Sawyers, Sheyi Ojo, Kion Etete and Max Watters for Andy Rinomhota, Callum O’Dowda, Mark Thomas Harris and Mahlon Romeo, respectively. Watford brought on Joseph Hungbo, Christian Kabasele and Yaser Asprilla, to replace Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Ismaila Sarr and Ken Sema.
There were bookings for Niels Nkounkou and Ryan Wintle from Cardiff. For Watford, Ken Sema and Mario Gaspar saw yellow.
Cardiff will play away against Sunderland AFC, while Watford will face Coventry City at home.
