Flamengo 1-2 Corinthians: Visitors secure points with win at Maracana

Flamengo fell to a home defeat at the hands of Corinthians at Maracana on Thursday. Flamengo had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Santos FC at home (3-2), the other to America Mineiro away (2-1). Corinthians had lost their previous match against Fluminense. both teams are now on 61 points and sit in 3rd and 5th places respectively after 35 matches.

The first half of the match started favourably for Corinthians, when Du Queiroz gave them the lead just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-0.

Flamengo started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Matheus Franca in the 48th minute. Corinthians in turn, then responded, at 75 minutes, grabbing the lead with an effort from Yuri Alberto. The final result, Flamengo 1, Corinthians 2.

Substitutions for Flamengo included Everton Ribeiro, Joao Gomes, Matheus Goncalves Martins, Mateusao and Rodinei for Victor Hugo Gomes Silva, Erick Pulgar, Marinho, Matheus Franca and Everton, respectively. Corinthians brought on Ramiro, Renato Augusto, Roni, Fagner and Gil, to replace Mateus Vital, Roger Guedes, Du Queiroz, Giuliano and Bruno Mendez.

The referee booked Roni for Corinthians.

Flamengo will next travel to Coritiba, while Corinthians will face Ceará at home.
