Cuiaba 2-0 Botafogo: Botafogo fail to make their mark at the Arena Pantanal
Cuiaba enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Botafogo at Arena Pantanal on Monday. Both Cuiaba and Botafogo arrived on the back of wins. Cuiaba were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning last match. Botafogo, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Red Bull Bragantino. After today’s result, Cuiaba and Botafogo sit 18th, (16 points) and 10th, (21 points), in the table respectively, after 16 matches.
Cuiaba started strong and were rewarded, when Alesson gave Cuiaba the lead in the 22nd minute. The score at half time was 1-0.
Cuiaba continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Andre Luis found the net just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 2-0.
Substitutions for Cuiaba included Igor Carius, Andre Luis, Daniel Guedes, Marcao Silva and Alan Empereur for Uendel, Alesson, Joao Lucas, Valdivia and Kelvin Osorio, repectively. Botafogo brought on Chay Oliveira, Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos, Luis Felipe Oyama and Klaus, to replace Romildo, Philipe Sampaio, Lucas Piazon and Victor Cuesta.
The referee booked Kelvin Osorio from Cuiaba. Botafogo had the worst of it though, with Daniel Borges and Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos seeing yellow, and Daniel Borges (2 yellow cards) and Hugo then sent off with a red.
Cuiaba will next travel to Palmeiras, while Botafogo will face Atl. Mineiro at home.
