Goianense 1-1 Palmeiras: Leaders pick up an away point

On Tuesday, Goianense and Palmeiras played out a 1-1 draw at Estadio Antonio Accioly. Both Goianense and Palmeiras arrived on the back of wins. Goianense were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Fluminense at home (3-2), the other to Avai away (2-1) while Palmeiras were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Coritiba and Botafogo. Goianense and Palmeiras are 18th, (29 points) and 1st, (67 points), in the table respectively, after 31 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Palmeiras certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with an early goal from Murilo Cerqueira in the 49th minute. In the end though, their lead was short-lived, as Shaylon equalised for Goianense in the 65th minute. The final result, Goianense 1, Palmeiras 1.

Substitutions for Goianense included Shaylon, Jorginho, Leo Pereira, Klaus and Radley Norberto Simiao Gomes for Arthur Henry, Edson, Luiz Fernando, Willian Maranhao and Diego Churín, respectively. Palmeiras brought on Wesley, Breno, Miguel Merentiel, Rafael Navarro and Vanderlan, to replace Mayke, Dudu, Rony, Gustavo Scarpa and Joaquin Piquerez.

There were bookings for Edson, Willian Maranhao, Jorginho and Shaylon from Goianense. For Palmeiras, Rony and Ze Rafael saw yellow.

Goianense will play their next fixture away against Juventude, while Palmeiras will face São Paulo at home.
